For the second time running, I have cause to disagree with Dr Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe on matters pertaining to football and football administration in Ghana. The last time, it was his position on rewarding the management staff of the Black Satellites. Yesterday, I heard him vociferously calling for the heads of Sulley Ali Muntari, Michael Essien and Asamoah Gyan; three key players of the Black Stars squad who allegedly refused to join the team to play an international friendly in Luanda, Angola.
He was unequivocal in his call for the dismissal of the 3 players for their conduct. I admire his sense of urgency. I would be the first to agree that when people are hired and paid good money and they fail to perform, they should be fired without even blinking. This shouldn’t call for the setting up of any of Uncle Atta’s numerous committees. But before we cast the first stone, let’s pause and consider this. Since when has Dr Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe become so concerned about non-performance? He was part of a government with a lot of non-performing ministers. How come he never called for their heads to roll? Does it only matter when the shoe is on the other leg? Last time I checked, wrong and right did not have expiry dates. So if it wasn’t good for the goose,I shudder to say it shouldn’t be, for the gander. He managed football in this country before and I bet he didn’t do any better. Maybe he should apologise to Ghanaians for not resigning before he was pushed.
Another thing. Must the three players go to Angola at all costs? How important was that match to us anyway? Has anyone bothered to find out why they didn’t make it? My people say, before you kill a fowl, give it water. For all we know, the GFA maybe suspect. Let’s hasten slowly. Anyway, those boys are not indispensable to the team and they must be made to understand that.
Just my beef from the cold this morning, perhaps one the very last ones from the cold.
